Rafael Nadal's Candidate Opponent At Wimbledon Charged With Abuse Of His Sexy Ex-Girlfriend, 2 Years In Prison Await

JAKARTA - Australian tennis player Nick Kyrgios is apparently not free from controversy. Recently he was charged with assaulting his ex-girlfriend Chiara Passari.

The indictment refers to the alleged assault by Kyrgios in December 2021, or two months after he and Passari ended their romance.

The problem means the 27-year-old has to face court in Canberra next month. If found guilty, the maximum sentence he receives is two years in prison.

"ACT Police can confirm a 27-year-old Watson man is scheduled to appear before the ACT Magistrates Court on August 2 in connection with one count of general assault following the incident in December 2021," the Australian Federal Police said in a statement Tuesday, July 5 yesterday, reported by the Daily Star.

Kyrgios' attorney Jason Moffett told the Canberra Times his client was aware of the allegations.

"This is in the context of domestic relations. The nature of the allegations is serious, and Kyrgios takes the allegations very seriously," he said.

"Given the matter is in court ... he has no comment at this stage, but in full time we will issue a media release," he added.

Kyrgios was approached by reporters after training at Wimbledon on Tuesday. However, he chose to remain silent.

Kyrgios is currently in the quarter-finals of Wimbledon 2022. It will be his first quarter-final at the grasscourt championship since 2014.

Kyrgios will face Cristian Garin in that round on Wednesday, July 6 tonight. If he manages to qualify from the quarter-finals, he has the potential to meet second seed Rafael Nadal.

Krygios is currently ranked 45th in the ATP rankings after previously occupying the 13th position in 2016. He is one of the talented tennis players who has a big chance to win a Grand Slam.
