Cristiano Ronaldo Reportedly Wants To Leave Manchester United, But The Club Is Reluctant To Let Him Go

JAKARTA - Aged striker Cristiano Ronaldo reportedly wants to leave English Premier League club Manchester United in the player transfer market this summer.

Quoted from Sky Sports reported by Antara, Sunday, Ronaldo's desire was driven by Manchester United's lack of enthusiasm in bringing in new players in this transfer market.

In addition, Manchester United have released 13 of their players and last season. The Red Devils failed to appear in the Champions League next season after only being able to sit in sixth place in the Premier League standings.

Even so, Ronaldo still respects Manchester United, especially their supporters, but next season will be the Portuguese player's first season appearing in the Europa League which he last did in the 2002/03 season with Sporting Lisbon when the competition was still called the UEFA Cup.

On the other hand, Manchester United are reluctant to sell Cristiano Ronaldo in the transfer market this summer and hope that the 37-year-old will stay until his contract expires in the summer of 2023.

Manchester United are now getting closer to landing midfielder Frenkie de Jong and Feyenoord left-back Tyrell Malacia, while they are looking to also sign Ajax centre-back Lisandro Martinez, but as of this writing, nothing has been announced by the Red Devils.

In addition, there are reports that Bayern Munich are interested in signing the Portugal forward if they end up losing Robert Lewandowski who continues to be linked with Barcelona.

It is understood Ronaldo doesn't fit into Bayern's philosophy and they will look to keep Lewandowski this summer.

Ronaldo returned to Manchester United at the start of the 2021/22 season having previously enjoyed success with Real Madrid and Juventus in the 12 years since leaving Old Trafford in the summer of 2009.

Last season, Cristiano Ronaldo, who is now 37 years old, became an important part of Manchester United by making 39 appearances and contributing 24 goals and three assists in all competitions.
