MotoGP News: Marc Marquez Is Undergoing A Recovery Period After His Fourth Arm Surgery At The End Of Last Month

JAKARTA - Repsol Honda team manager Alberto Puig ahead of the German Grand Prix gave positive news about the condition of the rider, Marc Marquez, who is undergoing postoperative recovery.

After completing the Italian Grand Prix late last month, Marquez flew to the United States for a fourth arm surgery.

Marquez had his right arm broken at the 2020 Spanish GP, which ultimately forced him to miss a full season and three operations on the table to treat the injury.

The 29-year-old rider also suffered from double vision due to head injuries in 2021 and 2022.

After undergoing surgery on his right humerus, Marquez is currently back in Spain, having missed the remainder of the season's races to recuperate.

"First of all, he is happy, because he feels good. He will undergo an examination with a doctor," said Puig after FP3 in Germany, as quoted by the official MotoGP website, quoted from Antara, Sunday 19 June

"Last time I spoke to him on the phone and I could feel he was very motivated, enthusiastic. I could see he was in a good mood."

Despite his absence on the track, Marquez still has a leading role in the team in the further development of the Honda RC213V motorcycle. LCR racer Alex Marquez even communicated directly with his brother during the Catalunya test.

"He's always been in communication, finding out and understanding what's going on at Honda and what they're doing," said Alex.

"He's always calling me. He knows how important this test is for Honda, and because of that, he's connected. He's my brother, it's normal that he's always watching me," said Alex.

Although a comeback is scheduled for next year, there is no certainty when Marc Marquez will return to racing because he is still focused on his recovery.

Through social media, Marquez uploaded a photo of himself, with his right arm supported by an arm sling, starting a light workout on foot with his two pet dogs.

Marquez became the king of the Sachsenring with a total of 11 wins in each class.

The Spaniard is unbeaten in Germany in eight consecutive MotoGP races from 2013 to 2021, with the exception of 2020 which was canceled due to the pandemic. Marquez also won twice in the Moto2 class and once in the 125cc class.

This achievement made Honda the most successful manufacturer at the Sachsenring since 1998 with 17 victories, 11 of which were presented by Marquez.

Honda riders also controlled the German GP pole position from 2011 to 2019. Johann Zarco (Ducati) last year became the only non-Honda rider to start at the front at the Sachsenring since Jorge Lorenzo in 2010 with Yamaha.

Marquez's absence opens up opportunities for other riders to climb the top podium in Germany this weekend.
