JAKARTA - Costa Rica completes the list of 32 countries participating in the 2022 World Cup after beating New Zealand 1-0 in the intercontinental play-off on Tuesday, June 14 evening.

Leaning on their veteran core, Costa Rica kept up a third-minute goal from Joel Campbell and relied on saves from goalkeeper and captain Keylor Navas.

This result lifted Costa Rica, 2014 quarter-finalists, to qualify for a third consecutive World Cup and sent New Zealand to a third successive failure in the last qualifying test.

The Kiwi Team's latest defeats in the intercontinental playoffs followed the exits of Mexico for the 2014 tournament and Peru four years later.

Meanwhile, Costa Rica's Colombian coach, Luis Fernando Suárez scored his own World Cup hat-trick. He previously led Ecuador to the 2006 tournament and led Honduras there in 2014.

A tough World Cup task awaits as Suárez and his team will face two of the last three winners in Group E. Spain are the first opponents on November 23, then Japan and Germany.
