JAKARTA - Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) Zainudin Amali said President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) would give appreciation to athletes who made achievements at the 2021 SEA Games Hanoi in the form of bonuses.

This is also a form of gratitude for the struggle of the athletes to make Indonesia proud in the international arena. According to the Minister of Youth and Sports, bonuses for athletes in the multi-event arena such as the SEA Games have been stated in the rules and regulations that apply in Indonesia.

"God willing, Mr. President Joko Widodo will give appreciation and gratitude to the athletes and coaches, the same as the SEA Games, Asian Games and Olympics ago. Since this is a multi-event, there are already rules that regulate it, God willing, it's just a matter of time," said the Minister of Youth and Sports in the ministry's official term, Tuesday, May 23.

Although he has confirmed the disbursement of bonuses, the Minister of Youth and Sports has not been able to state the exact nominal amount that will be received by each athlete or sport who gets a medal at the 2021 SEA Games Hanoi.

"The number has not been announced at this time, but later we will all see," said the Menpora, at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Tangerang, Banten.

On the last day of the closing of the 2021 SEA Games Hanoi, Indonesia successfully ranked third in the final standings for the 2021 SEA Games medals.

Menpora assessed that the results obtained from the 2021 SEA Games were good progress from the decision to reduce the number of athletes who went to Vietnam compared to the 2019 Philippines SEA Games. As is known, the number of athletes sent was much less than before.

"We only send those that actually passed the review team," he said

Overall, the Indonesian contingent successfully collected a total of 241 medals at the 2021 SEA Games. The details are 69 gold, 91 silver and 81 bronze medals. This achievement is Indonesia's best achievement in position since becoming the overall champion in 2011.
