JAKARTA - Harry Maguire has been under constant criticism from Manchester United supporters this season for his disappointing performances for the Red Devils.

The 29-year-old was one of the England players who helped the Three Lions to the final of Euro 2020 last summer, although his detractors would claim he is not up against an elite striker and is being protected by two defensive midfielders.

According to Manchester United legend Nemanja Vidic, Maguire could actually ask to be out of the Red Devils starting line-up for some time to restore confidence and form.

"Every player has had problems with performance at some point in his career," Vidic told The Athletic.

“I experienced it, and it is clear that Maguire is not at his best this season. I think you can do a few things and one of them is not to play every game as you try to find your form again and gain confidence.

"A coach can play him in easier games, not because there are many in the Premier League, and take him out for more difficult games. The player needs to feel strong again, not like now where he feels like it didn't happen to him.

"It's difficult to play well when you are under so much pressure because people are waiting for you to make mistakes. You ask me this and I answer it as a coach."
