Promised By The Government To The Hanoi SEA Games But Canceled Departure, Sutjiadi Narendra: Yes, It Hurts

JAKARTA - Rhythmic gymnastics athlete Sutjiati Narendra admitted that the government had promised to send him to the SEA Games Hanoi 2021. However, that promise was later broken.

Narendra, 18, received the promise after he achieved two gold and one silver medals when he brought the name of Lampung Province to the Papua National PON last year.

Unfortunately, his dream of appearing in the SEA Games ended up not being realized because the government decided to only dispatch sports that only had the potential to win gold.

"Yes, it hurts because it was promised. After the PON, it went (to the Hanoi SEA Games)," Narendra said when he was a guest star on the Deddy Corbuzier podcast as seen on Friday, April 15.

Narendra said the government's decision to send sports that have the potential for medals is considered very reasonable because he himself has not strengthened Indonesia in important events.

However, if the government does not give him a chance then his chance to prove himself will be delayed. In fact, according to him, athletes like himself need support before delivering achievements in the future.

Because he wanted to prove himself, Narendra had planned to use private funds, but still did not get government permission. As a result, he still did not go because the time was tight.

"They should have made preparations for this match from last year," said the daughter of husband and wife Andy Febriant Narendra and Christina Marie Narendra.

Besides being disappointed because he didn't go to Hanoi, in the same podcast, Narendra also made a confession regarding the bonus he had to receive at the Lampung Provincial Government for his achievements in PON that had not been disbursed.
