JAKARTA – Jonatan Christie's men's singles successfully reached the quarter-finals of the Korea Open 2022. He defeated Japan's representative Kodai Naraoka.

Jonathan won in straight sets 21-16, 21-11 over Kodai in the match which took place at the Palma Indoor Stadium on Thursday, April 7, 2022. The owner of the Asian Games gold medal needed 43 minutes to reach the quarter-finals.

Before taking the lead in the first set, Jonathan had to compete fiercely on the first four points. The 24 badminton player then took a 7-3 lead and led 11-9 at the interval, then continued to dominate to win in the first set.

In the second set, Jonathan dropped the first three points before coming back to catch up and equalize. After that, Jonathan's appearance could not get competition from his opponent until the match ended.

In the quarter-finals, Jonathan will face a challenge from Thailand's Kunlavut Vitidsarn. This eighth seed eliminated Jan Louda to lock the meeting with Jojo, Jonathan's nickname.

Previously, the men's singles, Shesar Hiren Rhustavito, had already stepped into the top eight after getting rid of the Indian men's singles Lakshya Sen.

Apart from Jonatan and Vito, the All England champion pair Bagas Maulana/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri also broke into the top eight with Hendra Setiawan/Mohammad Ahsan.

Then the two mixed doubles representatives Adnan Maulana/Mychelle Crhystine Bandoso and Rinov Rivaldy/Pitha Haningtyas Mentari also successfully penetrated into the same round. The two representatives compactly won over the host representatives Taeyang Shin/Chang Ye Na and Dong Ju Ki/Kim Hyerin.
