JAKARTA – The archery team has completed preparations to take part in the archery world cup in Antalya, Turkey, on April 18-24. The event will be a preparation for the 2021 SEA Games Hanoi.

Team manager Ari Wiranto said that the team was not given a specific target in this tournament. In addition, they also don't need to be maximal there, but with a peak performance record that must be achieved in Vietnam.

"This tournament is a warm-up for the athletes before participating in the SEA Games. The [Championship] in Antalya is to hone [athletes] sharpness," Ari said in an official statement.

The archery team consists of seven male athletes and three female athletes who will compete in compound and recurve events. Included among the seven male athletes are the Tokyo 2020 Olympic trio, namely Riau Ega Agatha, Arif Dwi Pangestu, and Bagas Prastyadi.

The Indonesian Archery Association (Perpani) will maintain the composition of the 10 athletes to face three multi-events in 2022, including for Hanoi later. The coaching team has designed a program to help athletes achieve peak performance in a short period of time.

Ari said that they had discussed with the technical and physical coaching team. They must be able to manage the condition of athletes so that they can reach peak conditions within the scheduled time.

"The time period is short and we have to live it. That's why we hope the athletes return home in top condition so they can immediately return to prepare for the next multi event," said Ari.

The 2021 SEA Games which will be held on 12-23 May 2022 will not only take place in Hanoi, but also in surrounding cities. A total of 40 sports will be competed in 526 numbers.

Indonesia will send a total of 476 athletes from 32 sports as well as 207 officials and 55 support staff. The number of athletes experienced an efficiency of 43.4 percent of the total athletes sent to the previous SEA Games in the Philippines in 2019.
