JAKARTA - Former UFC heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos now has a new home following his departure from the leading MMA organization. "Cigano" will join the ranks of Eagle FC, Khabib Nurmagomedov's show.

The move was announced by Nurmagomedov following AG Fight's initial report on Wednesday afternoon. According to Nurmagomedov, Dos Santos will be the main event in Eagle FC 48. The former champion will face fellow former UFC fighter Yorgan de Castro.

Considered one of the MMA heavyweights in Brazil, Dos Santos returned after more than a year of his last fight being knocked out by Ciryl Gane at UFC 256.

Dos Santos reached the pinnacle of his career in 2011, when he defeated Cain Velasquez and was crowned heavyweight champion. He was sacked after four straight defeats.

Recently, the Brazilian fighter was confirmed to be one of the performers in the second Triad Combat event, where he will face Kubrat Pulev. The fight was scheduled to take place in February, but was canceled after a spike in COVID-19 cases in the city of Houston.

Meanwhile, for De Castro, his fight against Dos Santos was the second in Nurmagomedov's organization. After winning his contract in Contender Series and going through a bad phase in the UFC.

De Casto won his last two fights. In his debut at Eagle FC, he beat Shaun Asher at Eagle FC 44.
