ASEAN Para Games Indonesia 2022 Enters 110 Kharisma Event Nusantara Kemenparekraf

JAKARTA – The 2022 ASEAN Para Games in Indonesia has been designated as one of the 110 Kharisma Event Nusantara (KEN) 2022 by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf).

Minister of Youth and Sports Zainudin Amali said the entry of the ASEAN Para Games to KEN would be a matter of pride for the institution he leads. Moreover, this automatically establishes cross-ministerial collaboration.

"One thing that is very good and certainly cannot be separated from that is national sporting events, whether we carry it out ourselves or we host the world events in 2022," said Amali.

Indonesia was officially selected to host the Southeast Asia disability multi-event on February 23 after Vietnam decided to withdraw.

The city of Solo was then designated as the host as stated in the decree issued by the ASEAN Para Sports Federation (APSF) on January 14 last.

The 11th edition of the ASEAN Para Games is scheduled to be held on 20-31 July. In addition to the city of Solo, this sporting event will also be spread in the surrounding area.

This is Indonesia's second opportunity to hold the ASEAN Para Games. Before Indonesia also hosted it in 2011, which at that time was also held in the city of Solo.

"We are proud that our history has set an important milestone and new hope for our revival, new hope for the revival of Indonesia's events, as well as supporting Indonesia as an event destination in Southeast Asia," said Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno.

KEN is a forum for a collection of quality events from all regions in Indonesia. KEN has been held since 2021 to support Indonesia's desire as an event destination in Southeast Asia.

This year the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf) received 319 proposed activities from 34 provinces to be curated in phase I and phase II. This number increased by 17 events compared to 2021 as many as 302 proposed events.

Of the 319 proposals, only 171 activities deserve to be presented in front of the curators. Of the total presented, 100 KEN 2022 were selected in the Top 10 KEN category and 100 KEN 2022 activities from 34 provinces.
