JAKARTA – The regeneration of badminton athletes in the women's sector is considered to have shown satisfactory results. This is measured by the recently won 2022 Asian Team Badminton Championships (BATC) title.

The women's team, which consisted mostly of back-up players and had their first experience of appearing in this championship, successfully emerged as the BATC champions after defeating South Korea in the final match at the Setia City Convention Center, Selangor, Malaysia, on Sunday 20 February.

"It turns out that the trust that we give to the back-up players can be answered with achievements. This indicates that the regeneration of players has gone well and is on the right track," said PP PBSI General Chair Agung Firman Sampurna in an official statement.

Apart from being a benchmark for the success of athlete regeneration, the BATC title is also special for the women's team. This is because the title is the first title for the Indonesian women's team in the history of the competition.

Despite lowering the majority of the back-up players, the women's team's journey to win the title was really satisfying. They managed to become group winners, including defeating Korea before the second meeting in the final.

"I appreciate and salute the achievements of the women's team which has successfully won the championship title. This is an achievement that is very proud of all of us. This is an achievement that must be recorded in the history of Indonesian badminton achievements," said Agung.

Indonesia failed to win the title of the men's team from this competition. The men's team which also advanced to the final failed to defend the title due to losing to Malaysia in the final.

The men's team also fielded most of the back-up players who had no experience in the team championships. Meanwhile, Malaysia went down in full force including the material from last year's Thomas Cup.
