A Total Of 52 Indonesian Liga 1 2022 Players Confirmed Positive For COVID-19 And Isolated

JAKARTA – The total number of 2022 Indonesian Liga 1 players infected with the COVID-19 virus has increased to 52 people. Another addition occurred ahead of the Madura United match against Persipura Jayapura.

Several Madura players tested positive for infection so the match against Persipura had to be postponed. The two teams were previously scheduled to meet on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, at Kompyang Sujana Stadium, Denpasar, Bali.

"A total of 12 teams have now tested positive for COVID-19 and have been confirmed, but with different proportions between players and officials. Of the 12 teams, a total of 68 people were isolated. It consists of 52 players, 16 officials," said LIB COVID-19 Task Force Deputy Dr. Alfan Nur Asyhar at a press conference on Tuesday, February 1.

Meanwhile, LIB Operations Director Sudjarno said that on average, players and officials infected with COVID-19 did not show severe symptoms. Only mild symptoms such as cough.

"Therefore, we hope that the healing will be fast. Of course, by sorting and isolating like this, with these treatments, of course, they hope they can recover quickly," said Sudjarno.

Regarding the postponement of the Madura match against Persipura, LIB has officially communicated to the two teams and several other related parties. The communication was carried out by letter numbered 047/LIB-KOM/II/2022.

Until now, LIB has not wanted to stop the competition even though COVID-19 cases have started to spread again. They just postponed the match with reference to the regulations. Especially in the regulation of the Indonesian League 1, article 52, 7 points.

There it is explained that if a team has less than 14 players on a match day, LIB and PSSI must hold a meeting to decide whether the match is postponed or not and that decision is final.
