JAKARTA - PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (Persero) or PLN is optimistic that electricity sales will increase again in the middle of a new normal. Previously, PLN revealed that in total electricity consumption had decreased when the large-scale social restrictions (PSBB) were implemented.

Director of Commerce and Customer Management Bob Saril said there were steps being taken to increase sales in the new normal era in 2020, including intensification and extensification.

"The intensification strategy aims to optimize the use of electrical energy in existing customers. In addition, another thing is to retain existing customers," he said in a written statement, quoted on Monday, June 22.

For the expansion strategy, said Bob Saril, it aims to increase kWh sales by adding new customers, including acquiring customers who have captive power and de-dieselization.

PLN is also making cost efficiency, finding new market niches, optimizing digital-based services through New PLN Mobile and electrifying lifestyle campaigns and live sales through social media.

PLN noted that the total electricity consumption in May 2020 was 18.63 TWh, lower than the previous month which reached 19.39 TWh. Electricity consumption in May 2020 has decreased by 10.73 percent compared to May 2019 (year on year).

"However, we are optimistic for future sales, we are also boosting sales from various lines, and seeing that the current new normal condition has provided a little more room for a more mobile economy, of course it is a breath of fresh air for electricity sales in the industrial and business sectors of PLN. "concluded Bob Saril.
