JAKARTA - Commission A of the DKI Jakarta DPRD proposed DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung to issue a governor regulation (pergub) that prohibits the practice of moneylenders or loan sharks.

Member of Commission A of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, Ongen Sangaji, said that cities in other areas such as Bandung also have regulations prohibiting parties from providing loans with very high interest rates. Similar policies need to be implemented in Jakarta.

"In Bandung, there is already a mayor regulation that regulates this. We need to imitate so that residents are not increasingly entangled in debt that is strangling them," Ongen said in his statement, Friday, March 21.

Ongen said that the moneylender ban is needed because until now there are still many Jakarta residents who are trapped in debt from illegal online loans to moneylenders.

Therefore, the DKI Provincial Government also needs to take concrete steps by forming a task force (task force) with the Task Force for the Eradication of Illegal Financial Activities (Satgas PASTI) which has been formed by the central government.

"In the villages, many moneylenders come to mothers and offer loans which eventually ensnare them in financial problems," explained Ongen.

In addition, DKI Jakarta DPRD Member Inad Luciawati emphasized that concrete solutions to prevent residents from being entangled by moneylenders are important.

Inad proposes the formation of cooperatives as an alternative so that people do not depend on moneylenders.

"There needs to be a cooperative that can help residents get loans without having to be entangled in high interest rates," said Inad.
