Ahead Of The Substitution Of The Year, The Kulon Progo Police Prepared Traffic Engineering

The Kulon Progo Police, Special Region of Yogyakarta, has designed traffic engineering management to overcome the potential for increasing vehicle volume in a number of important locations.

Areas of concern include Wates Square, the Glagah Beach tourist area, and other community crowd points during New Year's Eve to 2025.

"This regulatory step aims to maintain smooth traffic and provide a sense of security and comfort for people who celebrate New Year's Eve," said Kulon Progo Police Traffic Unit Head AKP Priyo Trihandoyo in Kulon Progo, as quoted by ANTARA.

Traffic engineering around the Wates Square includes the closure of several strategic roads, such as the Terbahsari Three Road Intersection (the mouth of the Wates Catholic Church), the Wates GKJ Tiga Intersection, the Tennis Square Tiga Intersection (on the south side of the square, with an emergency route on one side of the north road), the SMPN 1 Wates Intersection, and West Teteg.

The diversion of vehicle flow is carried out based on the need to maintain smooth traffic, with details of the following engineering: vehicles from the direction of Wates City (Three Driyan Intersection) are directed towards West Teteg, then turn left towards Wates Hospital, through Simpang Tiga Mbeji, Simpang Tiga Tunjungan, to Simpang Tiga Asemgede.

For vehicles from the Pengasih direction to Simpang Empat UNY, there are several options available, such as turning right on Jalan Bhayangkara, going straight to Simpang Tiga HW and turning right towards Jalan Representative, or turning left on Jalan Sugiman (APILL Simpang Tiga DPRD).

"The engineering implementation in Wates City will adjust the situation on the ground," he added.

In addition, traffic engineering is also implemented in the Glagah Beach area to reduce congestion in the tourist area. Two engineering options are prepared, where visitors who come out through the TPR are directed to the left towards Simpang Empat Kalurahan Glagah to break the queue.

In the event of traffic jams at the TPR, visitors are directed directly to the west via the beachfront road to exit at Simpang Tiga Congot.

Priyo explained that this engineering was the result of a collaboration between the Kulon Progo Police, the Transportation Service, and the community concerned about traffic safety.

"We are coordinating with the Transportation Agency and the community to care about traffic safety to ensure that vehicle flows remain under control and ensure public safety on New Year's Eve. This collaboration is very important so that all parties can play an active role in creating smooth traffic," he explained.

He also reminded the public to always obey traffic rules, avoid reckless driving behavior, and give priority to emergency routes for ambulances and vehicles with other urgent interests.
