BMKG Urges The Public To Beware Of High Waves During Christmas And New Year Holidays At South Kalimantan Beach

BANJARMASIN - High waves of sea water have the potential to travel during the Christmas 2024 and year-end holidays in coastal areas in South Kalimantan Province (South Kalimantan). This was revealed by the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).

"Especially in the southern sea waters of Kotabaru Regency, be aware of the potential for the highest waves among other waters, reaching 2.5 meters," said Meteorological Station Weather Forecaster Syamsudin Noor Banjarbaru BMKG South Kalimantan Rianita Sekar when confirmed in Banjarmasin, as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, December 26.

He said the potential for high sea waves in the southern part of South Kalimantan was accompanied by wind speeds of 3-25 knots from northwest to northeast.

"We urge the public to be vigilant during the Christmas and year-end holidays in the coastal and southern waters," he said.

Rianita explained that the potential for high sea waves is not only around Kotabaru, but throughout the southern waters of Kalimantan Island and the surrounding Java Sea.

He appealed to barges, fishing boats, and ferries to always be vigilant when crossing the sea level in the next few days.

In addition to the southern waters of Kalimantan Island, BMKG also predicts high waves of up to 2.5 meters in the waters of the eastern Java Sea with wind speeds of 5-20 knots from west to northwest.

Then, the potential for sea waves reaches 1.5 meters in the waters of the eastern Central Kalimantan and the central part of the Java Sea with wind speeds reaching 20 knots to the northwest.

In addition, BMKG also appealed to the people of South Kalimantan in the next three days to have the potential for rain accompanied by strong winds and lightning in 13 districts/cities.
