JAKARTA In commemoration of Mother's Day, the General Chairperson of the Indonesian Rombsis Humanitarian Foundation, Andi Idhanursanty, emphasized the importance of education related to Domestic Violence (KDRT) which needs to be started from the family.
According to Andi, mothers have a central role in shaping children's character and behavior. "Mother is the main figure in guiding children. Therefore, mothers must be confident and continue to learn to face challenges, one of which is in overcoming domestic violence," Andi said during an event in South Jakarta, Monday, December 23.
He added that mothers are not only tasked with providing religious and formal education, but are also role models in implementing the values of everyday life. Awareness of the importance of education about domestic violence must also be owned by mothers, so that they are able to create a harmonious family that is free from violence.
"Mother needs to be active in educational activities to become a useful woman, not only for her family but also for the wider community," he added.
On the other hand, Member of the Indonesian House of Representatives Commission XI, Andi Yuliani Paris, revealed that economic problems are often the root of the domestic violence case against women. He emphasized the need for strategic steps to reduce unemployment through improving the education system which is more relevant to the needs of the labor market.
"KDRT cases against women often start from economic problems. Therefore, we need to focus on economic empowerment programs, especially for the younger generation," said Andi Yuliani.
He also highlighted the importance of the government ensuring adequate availability of employment opportunities for the younger generation. This is considered important so that they are not trapped in difficult economic situations, which often trigger domestic violence.
In addition, Andi Yuliani encourages an update of the education curriculum at the high school and college levels to be more in line with industrial developments and work market needs. "The education curriculum must be updated so that graduates are ready to compete in the world of work," he said.
According to him, the younger generation who have skills according to market needs can help reduce unemployment, while at the same time reducing the potential for domestic violence in the community.
The combination of empowering women, relevant education, and opening employment opportunities is expected to be able to create a more prosperous and harmonious family.
