JAKARTA - Public policy observer from Trisakti University, Trubus Rahadiansyah, encourages the people of Jakarta to start diverting the use of groundwater to piped clean water.

This is because Jakarta continues to experience land subsidence every year. If it continues, mainland Jakarta can be even more below sea level.

"The public must continue to be advised to reduce dependence on groundwater and switch to using water services from PAM Jaya," Trubus told reporters, Friday, December 20.

With this regard, some time ago PAM Jaya signed a memorandum of understanding or MoU with the Indonesian National Resilience Agency (Lemhannas) to maintain water security in Jakarta.

According to Trubus, this step is needed to minimize the exploitation of groundwater which has a negative impact on land subsidence in Jakarta.

Because according to the study, water resistance is an urgent need in the midst of various challenges faced by Jakarta.

"We have to learn from experience. This water resistance is not only for now, but also for the future. There needs to be a sustainable planning scenario so that the ideals of water self-sufficiency can be achieved," said Trubus.

"If the infrastructure is adequate, people need to start switching from using groundwater to PAM Jaya water," he added.

Previously, PAM Jaya President Director Arief Nasrudin revealed that this strategic step in maintaining water security in Jakarta was an effort by the company owned by the DKI Provincial Government to support President Prabowo Subianto's vision regarding water self-sufficiency.

Arief said that this collaboration with Lemhanas aims to conduct an in-depth study of water security, considering the importance of water as a basic necessity that affects community stability and welfare.

"This is in line with the President's vision of self-sufficiency in water, where PAM Jaya will continue to be committed to maintaining water security in DKI Jakarta," said Arief in his statement, Wednesday, December 18.

Arief explained that this joint collaboration also includes research on various aspects related to clean water management, infrastructure challenges, threats to water resources, and defense strategies in dealing with potential water crises in the future.

"In addition, Lemhannas and PAM Jaya will also formulate policies to strengthen a safe and sustainable water supply system for Jakarta residents," he said.

It is known, in his speech at the MPR RI plenary session some time ago, Prabowo emphasized the importance of water self-sufficiency as part of the priority program for self-sufficiency in energy. According to him, economic resilience and the welfare of the Indonesian people cannot be achieved without equal access to clean water.
