Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed on Thursday Russia would retaliate against Ukraine's attacks with the ATACMS (Army Tactical Missile System) missile at the Taganrog airfield this week.

"I want to recall a statement made firmly by the Russian Ministry of Defense yesterday which said there would be a response," Peskov said, quoted by TASS December 12.

Peskov added that responses would come when Russia judged the situation and conditions were correct.

"But that will definitely happen," a spokesman for the Russian presidency reiterated.

Earlier, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported that Kyiv forces launched an attack on the Taganrog airfield in the Rostov Region, southern Russia, on the morning of December 11, 2024.

An investigation conducted by Russian authorities revealed that six US-made ATACMS ballistic missiles were used in the attack. Although no damage to the airfield was reported when ATACMS missile debris crashed, several personnel were injured.

"This Western long-range gun attack will not be left alone and appropriate action will be taken," the ministry said, quoted by Reuters.

Washington recently gave Kyiv permission to fire ATACMS on Russian territory, after months of requests, as reported by The Moscow Times.
