DPR Condemns Israel's Illegal Attack On Syria, Indonesian Government Is Asked To Act

JAKARTA - Member of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Sukamta, condemned Israel's illegal attacks on Syria to take over the Golan Heights zone. This is because the attack was deemed to have violated international law regulations, especially since there has been an agreement regarding the buffer zone in Syria.

"Israel's actions are clearly illegal, violating international law. Every country must respect the sovereignty of the territory of other countries," said Sukamta, Thursday, December 12.

Sukamta said the principle in the UN Charter regulates respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of each country. In addition, he said, there is international recognition of the Golan Heights region as part of Syria as contained in UN Security Council resolution number 242 of 1967, number 338 of 1973 and number 497 of 1981.

The Golan Heights is a territory of Syria's sovereignty, which must be respected, he stressed.

Sukamta views that Israel has taken advantage of the changing political situation in Syria with the fall of Bashar Al Assad's government. As is known, Israel's military operation into a buffer zone in the Golan Heights last weekend on the orders of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Israeli Defense Minister Katz after the fall of Bashar Al Assad's government in Syria.

"It is reasonable that Israel is trying to divert the genocide issue they continue to carry out in Gaza Palestine by taking advantage of the political changing situation in Syria," Sukamta explained.

According to him, Israel's illegal actions in controlling the Golan Heights will exacerbate the situation in the Middle East. "Israel's actions will actually backfire and further show Israel's original character as an colonial nation," he added.

The legislator for the Yogyakarta electoral district also hopes that the Indonesian government will immediately respond to the development of the situation in Syria. Especially regarding the occupation of Israel in the Golan Heights.

"Israel needs international pressure to stop Israel. It has been a dozen years since Syria has experienced difficult times due to civil war," Sukamta said.

The member of the commission in charge of defense and international relations added that the fall of the Assad regime brought new hope to the Syrian people. Therefore, Sukamta hopes that this will not be damaged by Israel's illegal actions that control the Golan Heights.

"This can threaten the process of peace and regional stability. Therefore, Indonesia needs to invite countries that are members of the OIC to urge UN DK to stop Israel's illegal actions," concluded Sukamta.
