Armed Groups Kidnap 50 Women And Children In Nigeria

JAKARTA - A group of gunmen kidnapped more than 50 women and children in an attack on Kakin Dawa village in Zamfara state, Nigeria.

Zamfara police said the kidnapping took place on Sunday, December 8. Additional security forces were deployed to the area.

Residents said the attackers arrived with assault rifles and went home to kidnap residents.

"Then we found out that they kidnapped more than 50 women, including married women and girls," said Hassan Ya'u, who escaped the attack but his younger sister was kidnapped.

"We ask the federal government and Zamfara states to send more troops and security personnel to fight the bandits," he said.

Unsecurities are widespread in the northwestern region of Nigeria, while the 15-year insurgency of Islamic groups has hit the northeastern region of the country. Gang and separatist violence also occurred in the southeast.
