JAKARTA - United States President-elect Donald Trump on Sunday called for an immediate ceasefire and negotiations between Ukraine and Russia to end the "crazy".
Trump made his comments hours after meeting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Paris, their first face-to-face talks since Trump won US elections last month.
The Republican politician had previously promised to end the conflict through negotiations, but has not provided details so far.
"Zelensky and Ukraine want to make a deal and stop the craze," Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social, adding Kyiv had lost about 400,000 troops.
"There should be an immediate ceasefire and negotiations should begin," he continued.
"I know Vladimir well. This is the time for him to act. China can help. The world is waiting!" Trump added, referring to Russian President Putin.
