Menbud Remembers The Role Of The US Help Indonesia Restore Sovereignty

JAKARTA - Minister of Culture (Menbud) Fadli Zon recalled the role of the United States as one of the countries that helped the Republic of Indonesia restore its sovereignty after proclaimed independence on August 17, 1945.

Fadli said that after the proclamation of independence, the invaders, in this case the Dutch and a number of other parties, tried to seize Indonesia's independence, and the United States played a role in various negotiations.

"In the series of 1945-1949, America's role was quite large, especially trying to re-lay negotiations and also negotiations including in the Renville negotiations, Roem-Royen until the recognition of sovereignty occurred," he said when met at the US-Indonesia Gala 75 event, in Jakarta, Saturday.

The members of the Red and White Cabinet of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka said that the role of the US in helping Indonesia realize its sovereignty recognition was one of the reasons for the strong diplomatic relations between the two countries, which are now 75 years old.

During that period, he continued, Indonesia and the US had carried out a lot of cooperation in various very wide fields, ranging from trade, economy, education, security to culture.

"When we look to the future, let us continue to embrace the wealth of our diversity, celebrate the beauty of our culture, and inspire future generations to continue the spirit of cooperation and friendship that has defined our relationship for 75 years," he said.

Fadli further appreciated the 75-year celebration of bilateral relations held by the United States Embassy in Jakarta through an orchestral concert.

According to him, diplomacy through music is very important because music is a universal language and can appreciate each other for displaying musicians from the country and the United States.

The concerts included 16, Joey Alexander, who is already known in the international music scene. Born in Bali in 2003, Joey has appeared before two US presidents, Barack Obama and Bill Clinton. He has also been nominated for the prestigious Grammy Awards.

"I think cultural language, musical language, is a unifying language and the most effective bridge because this music comes from the heart. What comes from the heart can penetrate the heart," said Fadli Zon.
