JAKARTA - Member of Commission D of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, Yuke Yurike, admitted that his party had no problem with the idea of the Acting Governor of DKI Jakarta Heru Budi regarding the construction of the island's reclamation for waste disposal.
However, Yuke emphasized that the new island that was used as a waste disposal site, if built, would not result in Jakarta's sea pollution.
"It is necessary to conduct an in-depth feasibility study to ensure that this method is safe and does not have a negative impact on the marine environment around Jakarta," Yuke told reporters, Thursday, May 16.
Therefore, the study on the feasibility of reclamation of this waste island must be carefully compiled by involving environmental experts, academics, and other related parties.
Not only that, Yuke also emphasized that the construction of the waste disposal island must use sophisticated and integrated waste processing infrastructure and technology.
"We need to ensure that Jakarta has adequate facilities and technology to support this program," explained Yuke.
If the waste island reclamation plan and feasibility study has been carried out, Yuke reminded the government to conduct socialization and education to the public.
"The public needs to be given an understanding of the importance of waste processing and the ways they can contribute to it," he said.
Previously, Heru revealed the desire to reclamation a special island as a landfill for final waste (TPA).
Heru assessed that this garbage disposal site needs to be built on new plains. This is because the availability of land in Jakarta is currently unable to accommodate Jakarta's waste every day.
