JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Johanis Tanak said KPK Chairman Firli Bahuri continued to participate in the case even though he was a suspect. He said his colleague was still authorized to handle allegations of corruption.

Firli is now a suspect in the alleged extortion or acceptance of gratuities from former Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Syahrul Yasin Limpo. This case is being handled by Polda Metro Jaya.

"Anyone who is the head of an institution in this country is still authorized to carry out their duties as long as there is no letter of authority to issue a decree to dismiss an official from his position," Johanis told reporters in a written statement quoted Friday, November 24.

Johanis did not specify what case Firli was still involved in in his case title. However, Firli is confirmed to be still carrying out his duties.

"(Firli, ed) is still following the exposure," he said.

Meanwhile, former KPK investigator Novel Baswedan assessed that Firli was still participating in the case, meaning that it was tragic. This is because a suspect in alleged corruption also decides the fate of other people.

If it is true and the leadership of the KPK and KPK personnel allow it, this is the first time the exposure of the TPK case is led by the TPK suspect. Tragic, "said Novel via his personal Twitter or X account, @nazaqistsha.

Novel then questioned the role of the KPK Supervisory Board. "Is it still there and functioning," he said.

Previously reported, Polda Metro Jaya has finished carrying out a case of alleged extortion or receiving gratuities from former Minister of Agriculture Syahrul Yasin Limpo. Firli was finally named a suspect.

Some of the evidence that became the basis for determining the suspect was witness testimony and electronic evidence. The police have examined 91 people in this case.

They include Syahrul Yasin Limpo, former aide to Firli Bahuri, Kevin Egananta. Then, there is the Semarang Police Chief Kombes Pol Irwan Anwar, Director of Dumas KPK Tomi Murtomo, as well as two former KPK leaders Saut Situmorang and M Jasin.

Meanwhile, there are about 8 experts consisting of criminal law experts, micro expressions, and procedural law.
