Allegedly The Panwaslu Selection Bribery, Head Of Bawaslu Surabaya City Was Removed

SURABAYA - Chairman of the Surabaya City General Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu), Muhammad Agil Akbar, was removed from his position after the Election Organizers Honorary Council (DKPP) found himself guilty of a report requesting Rp 5 million to Achmad Aben Achdan for the selection of candidates for the Election Supervisory Committee (Panwaslu) Sukolilo District, Surabaya.

In case number 112-PKE-DKPP/IX/2023, after a series of hearings, DKPP concluded that Agil violated DKPP Regulation Number 2 of 2017 concerning the Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct.

Thus, the DKPP imposed sanctions in the form of removing the position of the chairman of the Surabaya City Bawaslu and giving the last stern warning.

"Granted a partial complaint from the complainant. Imposing the last strict warning sanctions and dismissal from office to the defendant Muhammad Agil Akbar as chairman and concurrently a member of the Surabaya City Bawaslu as of the time this decision was read out," said Ratna Dewi Pettalolo, quoted by DKPP's official statement, Sunday, November 19.

In his complaint, Achmad Aben said that he had to send Rp 5 million in order to become a member of the sub-district panwaslu. The money was transferred through the integrated witness Appidzani Syahrullah.

DKPP assessed that Agil failed to ensure that the selection stage for prospective members of the sub-district Panwaslu ran according to the law and did not have ethics against money transactions. In addition to dismissing Agil, DKPP ordered Bawaslu to carry out this decision within a maximum of 7 days from its reading.

Although it was not proven to have received money, the panel considered Agil to have neglected the money transactions that occurred in the selection of members of Panwaslu, Sukolilo District.
