Bobby Nasution Asked To Speed Up Drainage Work To Anticipate Floods In Medan

Deputy Chairman of Commission IV of the Medan City DPRD, Rudiawan Sitorus, asked the Medan City Government through the Water Resources, Highways and Construction Development Offices (SDABMBK) to accelerate the work of drainage in this area.

"According to the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the North Sumatra Province has entered the peak of the rainy season, making it prone to flooding," said Rudiawan, quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, November 15.

This legislator states that by speeding up the drainage work, it is hoped that it can overcome flooding, especially at flood-prone points due to rain in Medan City.

Because if the high rainfall in Medan City and drainage work have not been completed, it is certain that it will have an impact on flooding and hinder the completion of drainage work.

Data from the Medan City SDABMBK Office states that from early January to July this year, we will continue to improve the 16,621 meter long drainage infrastructure at 38 road locations in Medan City.

"We hope that the drainage work in Medan City can be completed soon, so that when it rains so much it can be resolved because the drainage is ready and functioning," he said.

This politician also admitted that he was optimistic that the massive drainage work of the Medan City SDABMBK Office and coordinated with related parties would produce the best solution.

"In the area so far, flood subscriptions can be resolved. The point is that there must be communication between the Medan City Government and related parties, so that the Medan City floods are resolved," said Rudiawan.

Head of the Drainage Division of the Medan City SDABMBK Office, Gibson Panjaitan, admitted that he continues to focus on completing the work on all drainage networks so that they function properly.

He is optimistic that the drainage work, which includes the construction of an urban drainage system, increasing urban drainage channels and building an environmental drainage system, will be completed in December 2023.

"We are optimistic that the progress of drainage work in Medan City will run smoothly. Physical development continues, and we are pursuing the acceleration of development," said Gibson.
