BPBD DKI Alerts To Sub-Districts To Anticipate Floods In Rainy Seasons

JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) is on standby at the village level to prepare for the peak risk mitigation of the rainy season which may occur in February 2024.

According to the Head of the Sub-group for Preparedness of the DKI Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency, Embai Suhaimi, one of the efforts made was to provide education to village residents, including the village head, to increase community preparedness and village-level officials.

He explained that the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts that the peak of the rainy season is February. Therefore, he said, they carried out a number of mitigation efforts long ago, such as preparation at the village level, one of which was through education.

The education topics given are how to make tents. In addition, they have also installed a number of disaster signs in several urban villages that are considered prone to flood disasters, which are 20 urban villages.

BPBD DKI has also deployed members of the Disaster Risk Reduction Forum to urban villages to get closer to residents, in order to create resilient urban villages to deal with disasters.

They have also checked and ensured logistical readiness, such as boats, so that they can be used during disaster situations.

"And we have created evacuation points for them to evacuate themselves," he said.

He hopes that with these preparations, the public can anticipate if there are natural phenomena such as high rainfall mentioned by the BMKG, as well as the risk of tidal flooding predicted by the Naval Hydro-Oceanography Center (Pushidrosal).

Meanwhile, the BMKG said it predicts the peak of the rainy season in February. DKI Jakarta has low rainfall compared to the surrounding areas, but it is necessary to be aware of high rainfall from the south of DKI Jakarta, namely Bogor and its surroundings.
