BANJARMASIN - Head of the Balangan Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), South Kalimantan (Kalsel) Rahmi appealed to the local community not to panic regarding earthquake information that occurred on Monday morning. "We urge the public not to panic regarding the information about this earthquake," said Rahmi in Balangan, Antara, Monday, October 13. For Balangan Regency, Rahmi admitted that until now he had not received a report on the building or victims affected by the earthquake. According to Rahmi, because the information from the Head of the South Kalimantan BMKG regarding earthquakes measuring below five magnitudes was not felt. Rahmi said the tremors caused damage or impact when the earthquake was above six magnitudes, while the earthquake in Balangan had an M4.0 magnitude. "We have also confirmed this information through coordinating with the Head of the South Kalimantan BMKG. He gave a statement that it really happened and the information was valid,” said Rahmi. In addition, said Rahmi, earthquakes with a magnitude below 5 magnitudes occur almost every day outside the island of Kalimantan, even hundreds of times.

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) of South Kalimantan announced the earthquake in the area around Balangan Regency on Monday (13/11) morning. The earthquake occurred at 07:39 WIB or at 8:39 WITA with an M4.0 power at the point of the earthquake was at coordinates 2.17 LS-115.59 East Longitude from a depth of 10 kilometers.
