JAKARTA - The Indonesian defense industry is working with the provider of navigation technology from Germany, Anschötz for the rejuvenation and modernization of 41 warships (KRI) including submarines.

In the modernization process, Anschötz emphasized that there is a technology transfer, especially in the maintenance and training of the ship navigation system, which in practice cooperates with the domestic company PT Cipta Teknologi Persada.

President Director of PT Cipta Teknologi Persada Asmui Mansur when contacted in Jakarta, Friday, said the cooperation between his company and Anschötz was signed on Thursday (9/11).

In the cooperation contract, the two agreed that Anschötz made a training program for Indonesian technicians.

Asmui said that later the education and training, including related to maintenance, would also involve Indonesian Navy soldiers.

"So far, we have been quite successful in the installation, integration, and operation of products from Anschötz in the Navy (TNI) fleet. Hopefully this collaboration can be improved by getting Anschötz products more easily in the country," said Asmui.

He added that Ansch\"utz technology is currently quite widely used in Indonesian warships. Ansch\"utz is currently known as one of the main suppliers of ship navigation and electronics technology, including the inertialgyro, the warship electronic current display and information system (WECDIS), and integrated bridge and navigation system (IBNS).

President Director of Anschötz for ASEAN and Far East Ron Lee Chor Yong welcomed the cooperation, stressing product availability is a key factor in the process of modernization, especially during the emergency and the transition from peace time to wartime.

Meanwhile, regarding the transfer of technology, Ron explained that the company's business direction in the future wants to involve small-scale companies in Indonesia to be involved in small-scale assembly.

"In the long term, we hope to build a design and engineering center in Indonesia involving the Navy, the local government, whose products can later be exported to other countries," said Ron.

In the project to rejuvenate 41 Indonesian Navy ships, the Indonesian Ministry of Defense appointed PT PAL Indonesia (Persero) as the leak of the integrator (main contractor).

President Director of PT PAL Indonesia Kaharuddin Djenod in the company's official broadcast on November 2, 2022, explained that PT PAL does not only act as the sole contractor in the rejuvenation project, but is also tasked with exploring the potential of the maritime industry in Indonesia, especially shipyards in the country.

The Indonesian Navy ship rejuvenation project that is included in the cooperation contract of the Ministry of Defense and PT PAL includes fast Patrol Boat (FPB) Class, Parchim Class, Corvet Fatahillah Class, PKR Class, KCR Class, Sigma Class and MRLF Bung Tomo Class.

The project, which takes place in a multi-year scheme, also includes aship conversion, the installation of a surface-to-surface-missile (SSM) missile, as well as the addition of an integrated weapon in theCombat Management System (CMS) and re-powering system to restore human function and improve the performance of the main combat ship.

For warships such as KCR (missile speedboats) and PKR (destructive warships) it will also modernize its navigation and communication system.

As of August 21, 2023, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Navy, at that time, Vice Admiral TNI Ahmadi Heri Purwono said that seven ships had entered the rejuvenation and modernization stage.

"This is currently in the process. I think everything is already working, and I see it is at several shipyards, divided at the domestic shipyard. There are seven ships that are currently being worked on," said Ahmadi while still serving as Deputy Chief of Staff.
