KENDARI - The General Election Commission (KPU) of Kendari City, Southeast Sulawesi, found at least 150 ballot boxes sent by the Indonesian KPU for the 2024 elections in damaged condition.

Chairman of the Kendari City KPU, Jumwal Saleh, said that the ballot box arrived at the KPU logistics warehouse on Friday, November 3 at around 10.45 WITA.

"It was finished dismantling at 15.00 WITA," he said when contacted in Kendari, Antara, Sunday, November 5.

From the sorting results, explained Jumwal, the number of logistics received by the Kendari City KPU was 1,034 ballot boxes or 5,170 ballot boxes, with details of 5,020 ballot boxes in good condition and 150 ballot boxes in damaged condition.

He explained that the cause of damage to the 150 ballot boxes was because they were wet with water and were production defects.

"Consisting of 105 boxes of wet and 45 boxes of defects," said Jumwal.

The need for ballot boxes for the 2024 Election in Kendari City with 1,030 voting stations (TPS) is 5,150 boxes, plus 22 cities for special TPS, so that in total there are 5,172 voting cities.

"This means that with a total of 5,020 ballot boxes in good condition, there are still 152 boxes missing," he said.

According to Jumwal, the damage to the ballot box occurred during delivery to the Kendari City KPU warehouse so this is still the responsibility of the provider.

The Kendari City KPU has reported the discovery of the damaged ballot box to the Southeast Sulawesi Province KPU and the Indonesian KPU via the Logistics Information System (Silog).

"The minutes of the handover signed by the Head of the Kendari City KPU KUL Subdivision and the provider, which includes a description of the logistics conditions, have been uploaded to Silog," he added.
