BANJARMASIN - Balai Wilayah Sungai (BWS) Kalimantan III together with the City Government (Pemkot) of Banjarmasin and the Provincial Government of South Kalimantan collaborated to handle and transport hyacinthetherlands that spread in the Martapura River.

The Technical Implementation Officer for Operations and Maintenance of the Kalimantan BWS III Hamidhan in Banjarmasin, Wednesday, said that BWS prepared heavy equipment in the form of excavators to clean up piles of hyacinth in the river.

Hamidhan mentioned the location chosen to clean up the weeds, namely the catchment area of gondok in the Martapura River, to be precise Sungai Gampa, Sungai Jingah Village, North Banjarmasin, Banjarmasin City.

BWS prepares heavy equipment for the lifting upwards, the Banjarmasin City Government deploys troops, and the South Kalimantan Provincial Government also provides tools to flatten piles of hyacinth piles in rivers or collect them so that they can be easily moved to land.

"It was the result of a joint meeting between BWS, South Kalimantan Provincial Government, and the Banjarmasin City Government and its implementation, as soon as possible," said Hamidhan.

However, Hamidhan has not been able to confirm the amount of hyacinth scattered in the Martapura River.

Hamidhan hopes that the pile of hyacinth that is lifted from the river will not become garbage on land because it can be used as a handicraft or organic fertilizer.

It is known that the Banjarmasin City Government has a location to process organic fertilizers.

Previously, BWS Kalimantan III invited the river care community to collaborate to change the public's point of view about the river so as not to litter to maintain environmental cleanliness. This is so that efforts to clean up the hyacinth carried out by various parties are not in vain.
