Responding To The Constitutional Court As A Family Court, Anwar Usman: Right, Indonesian Family

AKARTA - Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court (MK) Anwar Usman responded to the narrative of the 'Family Court' which was developing in the community after the Constitutional Court's decision regarding the requirements for the age of presidential and vice-presidential candidates to at least 40 years or experience being regional heads.

Anwar Usman said that the narrative is true, but the word "family" is intended for the family of the Indonesian nation as a whole.

"That's right, the Indonesian family. That's it," said Anwar after a closed session with the Honorary Council of the Constitutional Court (MKMK) at Building II of the Constitutional Court, Jakarta, Tuesday, October 31 evening, was confiscated by Antara.

Regarding him who did not resign when examining the case; so associated with a conflict of interest, Anwar said a position had been regulated by God.

"The one who determines the position belongs to Allah Almighty," he said.

He also questioned the narrative of the conflict of interest that the public had raised against him. Anwar felt that there was no conflict of interest in him with the case which was decided on Monday, October 16.

"Who? Whose interests? This is a norm court, all Indonesians, the Indonesian people," he said.

Anwar also said that the name of the Mayor of Solo, Gibran Rakabuming, who was his nephew, was not mentioned in the consideration of the case's decision. "Oh nothing is considered, try reading it," said Anwar.

It is known that Anwar Usman arrived at the examination room, on the 4th Floor of the Constitutional Court Building, Jakarta at around 16.10 WIB to undergo a closed trial. He was examined behind closed doors by three MKMK members, namely Jimly Asshiddiqie, Wahiduddin Adams, and Bintan R. Saragih.

Anwar said during the examination, he was asked for information regarding things that were developing in the community and the news in the mass media. He also admitted to providing clarification on this matter.

Previously, Jimly Asshiddiqie as the Chief Justice of the MKMK said that as of Monday, October 30, his party had received 18 reports related to alleged violations of the Constitutional Court judges' code of ethics.

"So, now there are 18 reports, two more reports have been added today. Of those 18, there were six issues. Then, there were nine (chiefs) reported, but (reports) the most important, most importantly, Mr. Anwar Usman," said Jimly after a closed meeting with nine constitutional judges at the Constitutional Court Building, Jakarta, Monday, October 30.
