JAKARTA - Anies Baswedan said the unregulated cost of political party activities could trigger a criminal act of corruption, so it had to be addressed seriously.

"Reformation related to financing political activities needs to be a reform agenda. We know that political parties must be financed so that they can run," said Anies when speaking at the UI-Indonesia Investment Summit event in Jakarta as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, October 24.

According to him, if political party finances are not reformed, then the party's cost burden will be borne by people who are in the political process.

This condition causes the emergence of personal interests and the desire to restore political capital, as well as to trigger corruption.

"Will the state finance half of it? And it will be part of the discussion going forward," he continued.

Anies said reforms regarding the costs of political parties needed to be a national agenda, because political parties had to be financed in order to operate.

"Just like the media, this political party needs funds to move to the community and other activities," he said.

This is a serious concern for Anies, so he believes that financial reform of political parties needs to be carried out.
