Minister of Environment and Forestry Inaugurates Climate and Carbon Consultation Collaboration House

JAKARTA - Minister of Environment and Forestry (LHK) Siti Nurbaya Bakar inaugurated the Climate and Carbon Consultation Collaboration House (RKKIK) to support the governance of Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) documents and the implementation of the Economic Value of Carbon (NEK).

"This RKKIK was built on the basis of realizing Indonesia's commitment to achieving service-oriented NDC targets by upholding collaboration in all NDC and NEK implementation activities," she said as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, October 24.

Currently, the Indonesian Government has issued Presidential Regulation Number 98 of 2021 concerning the Implementation of Carbon Economic Value (NEK) to achieve Nationally Determined Contribution Targets (NDC) and control greenhouse gas emissions in national development.

The implementation of the NEK, he said, also includes carbon trading which consists of trading emissions and emission offsets, levies on carbon, performance-based payments and other mechanisms.

"The Ministry of Environment and Forestry, as the national focal point for global climate change, is preparing consultation and collaboration facilitation to support the governance of the implementation of the NDC and the implementation of the NEK through this RKKIK," she said.

He said the RKKIK's presence was to provide various services, including climate change mitigation, carbon economic value, national climate change registration system, climate change adaptation, and a secretariat.

It also contains various kinds of services, such as providing information, education and capacity building, advocacy, technical services, cooperation with ministries and institutions, regional governments, business actors and the community which are carried out through virtual or face-to-face consultation processes.

"The hope is that later all activities related to consultation and dissemination of information from the five fields will be provided by the RKKIK service," she said.

Siti Nurbaya said that RKKIK was the start of building credible carbon governance with integrity using a collaborative approach from various parties so that it could run sustainably.
