The National Police Chief Reminds Presidential And Vice Presidential Candidates To Maintain Indonesian Unity, Don't Break Political Belah

National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo reminded each candidate pair (paslon) of the president and vice president not to use political methods that can divide in order to maintain the unity and integrity of the Indonesian nation.

"Yesterday, we saw that two candidates had registered, only one pair had not," said the National Police Chief while attending a public lecture at the Hasanuddin University (Unhas) Campus in Makassar, South Sulawesi, as reported by ANTARA, Friday, October 20.

Sigit said that the National Police is currently focusing on securing the Legislative Election and the 2024 Presidential Election. Listyo. So far, there are two candidates for presidential and vice-presidential candidates who have registered with the Indonesian KPU. So that the implementation of the election stages is already running and this is considered crucial.

Two candidate pairs who have registered with the KPU on Thursday, October 19, 2023, each pair Anies Rasyid Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar and Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD.

For this reason, the National Police Chief again reminded the candidate pairs and their teams before and after being appointed as candidate pairs to always prioritize good political methods, be polite and not divide national unity. Because, the impact of society becomes victims.

"Don't use divided politics which can make people become victims. I have often conveyed that and I have never doubted to anyone with the presidential candidate. Because this is important for all of us," he said.

According to him, every democratic party, including which takes place every five years, is certainly a threat and the potential for conflict can occur. Therefore, his party will act carefully so as not to cause conflict during the simultaneous elections on February 14, 2024.

"Of course this is a threat to all of us, which is called a conflict situation. If we are not careful, it will definitely happen (conflict). I always advise, let's maintain unity and integrity," he said.

In order to anticipate the potential for conflict in the contestation, the National Police Chief said that he had met all leaders of political parties, even on several occasions he often met each prospective presidential candidate who would fight.

"I have spoken many times and have never hesitated to speak to the Chairman of the Party, I spoke to the presidential candidate. I can go forward, but there are rumors. Convince the public that he or she is a candidate for leadership who deserves to be elected," he added.
