JAKARTA - Chairman of the Indonesian Bike to Work (B2W) Fahmi Saimima expressed his disappointment over the demolition of bicycle lane barriers or sticks cones on a number of roads in Jakarta.
The head of the cyclist community views that the DKI Provincial Government is not running the government system properly because it has dismantled bicycle users' safety facilities.
"We are really very disappointed and this can be called governance malpractice," Fahmi told reporters, Wednesday, October 18.
Fahmi said that the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency did not carry out the mandate in Regional Regulation Number 7 of 2012 concerning Public Infrastructure, Facilities and Utilities.
If the reason for dismantling the stick cone on the bicycle lane is done so as not to endanger motorists, Fahmi said this would not make sense.
"The reason is unacceptable. The bicycle lane has gone through a long road of study, even supervision is carried out with international institutions," he said.
Previously, the Head of the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency, Syafrin Liputo, admitted that his party had revoked the stick cone for the bicycle lane barrier on 13 roads in the capital city. The revocation of the stick cone was carried out because there was damage based on community reports.
"There is a public complaint in the CRM system (Cepat Respons Masyarakat) to be followed up. Because the stick cone is damaged, it is done by removing the stick cone," said Syafrin in his statement.
The gradually lifted bicycle lane barriers were carried out on Jalan Army Students, Jalan Kramat Raya, Jalan Hos Cokroaminoto, Jalan Ahmad Yani, Jalan DI Panjaitan, Jalan Purification.
Then, Jalan Salemba Raya, Jalan Perintis Kemerdekaan, Jalan RP Soeroso, Jalan Dr. Sutomo, Jalan Tugu Tani, Jalan Teuku Cik Ditiro, and Jalan Pra Soldier KKO Usman.
The reason for the removal of the stick cone was because it was damaged which was caused by being hit by a motorized vehicle. Syafrin admitted that his party also did not know when the damage would occur.
"The results of the survey by field officers for the Traffic Sector showed that there was a stick cone damaged when hit by a motorized vehicle," said Syafrin.
Furthermore, Syafrin explained that the removal of the damaged stick cone was a step to ensure the safety of cyclists and other road users on the road so that there were no traffic accidents.
