JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam), Mahfud MD said the decision of the Constitutional Court (MK) regarding the request for a judicial review of the General Election (UU Pemilu) regarding the age limit for presidential candidates (candidates) and vice presidential candidates (cawapres) is binding. "Whatever, if the Constitutional Court's decision (Mahkamah Konstitusi) is binding," said Mahfud MD after giving a public lecture on "Democracy in QUESTION Towards Golden Indonesia 2045" at Airlangga University Surabaya, Monday, October 16, it was confiscated by Antara. "We must be ready with whatever the decision of the Constitutional Court is," he said. Meanwhile, the Constitutional Court rejected the application for judicial review of Article 169 letter (q) of Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning General Elections (UU Pemilu) regarding the age limit for presidential candidates (candidates) and vice presidential candidates (cawapres) proposed by the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI).

"Reject the petitioners in its entirety," said Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court Anwar Usman in a hearing to read the verdict/decision at the Indonesian Constitutional Court Building, Jakarta, Monday.

Anwar mengatakan bahwa mahkamah berkesimpulan permohonan yang diajukan oleh PSI tersebut tidak beralasan menurut hukum untuk seluruhnya.Menurut mahkamah, Pasal 169 huruf (q) UU Pemilu tidak melanggar hak atas kesamaan kedudukan dalam hukum dan pemerintahan.Kemudian, tidak pula melanggar hak atas pengakuan, jaminan, perlindungan, dan kepastian hukum yang adil dan perlakuan yang sama di hadapan hukum, serta hak memperoleh kesempatan yang sama dalam pemerintahan.PSI memohon batas usia capres dan cawapres menjadi 35 tahun, sebagaimana yang pernah diatur dalam Pasal 5 huruf (o) Undang-Undang Nomor 42 Tahun 2008 dan Pasal 6 huruf (q) Undang-Undang Nomor 23 Tahun 2003 tentang Pemilihan Umum Presiden dan Wakil Presiden.
