IPW: Determination Of Firli Bahuri As A Suspect Is Just Waiting For Time

JAKARTA - Chairman of Indonesia Police Watch (IPW), Sugeng Teguh Santoso, assessed that the determination of the suspect against KPK Chairman Firli Bahuri in the alleged extortion case against former Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Syahrul Yasin Limpo or SYL was only a matter of time.

He made this statement when responding to the steps taken by the Polda Metro Jaya to submit a supervision request to the KPK in handling the case.

"The determination of the suspect FB (Firli Bahuri) is just a matter of time. This means that investigators believe that during the case title for the determination of the suspect, investigators will believe that the party who will be held accountable for the crime will be found for extortion and or gratification or bribery," said Sugeng in his statement, Monday, October 16.

According to him, investigators from the Corruption Sub-Directorate of the Ditreskrimsus Polda Metro Jaya believe that the steps taken have complied with procedures, both formal and material. Thus, deciding to invite the KPK to cooperate or supervise in handling the case.

In addition, investigators are also considered to have sufficient evidence. It is proven by increasing the status of the case to the investigation stage

"Investigators are very confident that they have sufficient evidence to declare that there have been criminal acts of extortion and/or gratification and/or violators of Article 36 in conjunction with Article 65 of the KPK Law. So that they dare to be tested for their work by involving the supervision of the KPK," said Sugeng.

Sugeng also appreciated the Polda Metro Jaya, especially Inspector General Karyoto, who said that the supervision was intended as a form of transparency.

Not to forget, IPW also encourages the handling of the case to be continued and continue to uphold transparency in handling other cases.

"IPW encourages Polda Metro Jaya to continue this transparent step forward to law enforcement in other cases being investigated by the Polda Metro Jaya, namely reports of alleged leaks of case investigation warrants at ESDM which have been fingerprinted," said Sugeng.

Previously, it was reported that the Metro Jaya Police Chief Inspector General Karyoto wrote to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) regarding a request for supervision in handling the alleged extortion case against former Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Syahrul Yasin Limpo or SYL by the head of the anti-corruption agency. The letter was sent October 11.

"Investigators have sent a letter from the Metro Jaya Police Chief to the leadership of the Corruption Eradication Commission regarding the request for supervision of case handling," said Director of Special Criminal Investigation of the Metro Jaya Police, Kombes Ade Safri Simanjuntak.

The request for supervision between Polda Metro Jaya and the KPK is a form of transparency in handling the alleged extortion case.

"One form of supervision like that, so it is involved in coordination and supervision, one of which is in the form of a joint case title, essentially the KPK and the Police are solid in eradicating corruption," said Ade.
