SORONG - Chairman of the SPI Komisi Corruption Eradication Team (KPK) Wahyu Dewantara Susilo said Southwest Papua is one of the provinces that is very vulnerable to corruption based on the results of an integrity assessment survey (SPI) conducted by the KPK.

"Although New Southwest Papua was formed, based on a survey, it turns out that this province is at 64.84, which is very vulnerable to corruption," said the Head of the KPK SPI Team at the Legal and Human Rights Literacy Forum (Firtual) in Sorong, reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, October 4.

Based on the results of the SPI per region, he said, Sorong City was at 68.53, followed by Sorong Regency at 68.54, Maybrat Regency at 63.41, Raja Ampat Regency at 64.62, South Sorong Regency at 58.05 and Tambrauw Regency at 65.93.

Wahyu explained that the integrity index starting from 0.00-67.9 was categorized as very vulnerable, and Papua Province, West Papua, including Southwest Papua, was categorized as very vulnerable.

Meanwhile, the number 68.00-73.60 is classified as vulnerable, then 73.77 is alert and 77.50-100 is maintained.

"This is a big challenge because this province is the youngest," he said.

According to Wahyu, the main cause of Southwest Papua Province being categorized as very vulnerable to corruption due to trade, influence in determining vendor winners, appointment of government officials and related to the integrity of the implementation of tasks.

In addition, he said, another challenge is the lack of anti-corruption socialization carried out by local governments in Southwest Papua.

"If we need KPK assistance, we are ready to help. This is a note for the local government as well as several other challenges, which are prone to corruption and gratification in carrying out official duties," explained Wahyu.

Nationally, said Wahyu, the governance of provincial and district/city governments is still very high in corruption. This is because local governments are in direct contact with the community.

"Local governments are at a very high risk of corruption because local governments are in direct contact with the community," said Wahyu.
