East Bintan Firefighters Evacuate 4 Meter Pythons Entering Residents' Settlements

East Bintan Fire Department (Damkar), Riau Islands (Kepri), evacuated a four-meter-long python that entered local residents' settlements.

Head of UPTD East Bintan Fire Department, Nurwendi, said that his party received reports from residents that a python was found behind a resident's house named Rasno in Kijang Kota Village, East Bintan District.

"After receiving the report, the East Bintan Damkar UPTD guard team immediately went to the scene to evacuate the python," said Nurwendi, quoted by ANTARA, Monday, October 2.

It took about half an hour for his team of about three to evacuate a python with complete personal protective equipment (PPE).

"This python did not fight back when it was removed, because it was too full to prey on a number of chickens belonging to residents," said Rasno.

"After successfully evacuating. This snake was immediately taken to the damkar post, then released into its natural habitat, but in nature different from the initial location the snake was found," said Nurwendi.

Nurwendi suspects that the python came out of the forest landscape in the vicinity because it wanted to find food to a safer and more comfortable place to live.

Throughout September 2023, his party has evacuated three pythons into residential areas.

"Now it is the transition season, so snakes come out of their habitat, so residents must remain vigilant," he said.
