Beijing Warns Impact Of European Union Investigation On Chinese Electric Cars

JAKARTA - Beijing warns that investigations by the European Union (EU) into China's electric vehicle subsidies could disrupt the global automotive supply chain and go against international trade norms.

The statement was made by Foreign Minister Wang Yi during a phone call with his Hungarian counterpart Peter Szijjarto on Wednesday (27/9) night.

China adheres to its green, low-carbon, and sustainable development path, which is fully consistent with EU development direction, China's Foreign Ministry statement quoted Wang as saying by ANTARA, Friday, September 29.

Beijing and Europe are not 'competitive' but mitra partners,' said the senior Chinese diplomat.

"Hongaria is expected to continue to encourage EUs to adopt more active and open cooperation policies with China, work closely with China to practice true multilateralism, maintain international systems with the United Nations as a core, and encourage the development of healthy and stable China-EU relations," he added.

Meanwhile, Szijjarto stated that Hungary's firm stance rejected the termination of relations with China.

Hungary hopes for close collaboration between the EU and China, and does not support EU actions that could hinder fair competition and cooperation, he said.

"Europe and China will work closely together, and (Hongary) does not support any action taken by the EU that could threaten the creation of competition and healthy cooperation," added Szijjarto.
