Jokowi Will Check Mining Companies That Don't Improve Land

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) confirmed that he would check one by one mining companies that do not repair land for their former mining activities.

This was conveyed by President Jokowi in his remarks at the peak event of the Environmental, Climate, Forestry, New Renewable Energy Festival (LIKE), at the Indonesia Arena, Gelora Bung Karno, Jakarta, Monday, September 18.

"I remind you that if there are mining companies here, after mining, the land must be repaired. Agree? Don't leave it immediately, leave it alone, I will check one by one," said President Jokowi.

President Jokowi said that currently there are new regulations from the Minister of Environment and Forestry (LHK) that every mining company must have a nursery center.

"You have to have a insurance center so that every time the mine is planted, it is immediately planted, it is immediately planted, so that environmental damage does not worsen. It is mandatory because there is a ministerial regulation, it has just come out," said President Jokowi.

He said the world is currently transitioning to a green economy. All countries direct their focus on a green economy because all countries are afraid of existing climate change.

President Jokowi said many countries have used bio diesel and bio ethanol. Indonesia, he said, has also started the battery industry for electric vehicles.

"We also don't want to lose the opportunity to build an electric vehicle battery industry. Because we have raw materials here. Nickel we have, our cobalt, our manganese we have," said President Jokowi.

However, he reminded mining companies, including mining companies for raw materials for electric batteries, to follow the obligation to repair former mining land in accordance with the Minister of Environment and Forestry Regulation.
