AMBON - PT Pelni Ambon Branch has begun to apply a maximum cargo limit for ship passengers of 40 kilograms. Those who experience excesses will be charged a fee of Rp. 2,000 per kilogram. "With the maximum baggage limitation, a balance of luggage will be carried out before leaving, if there is an excess, it will be charged," said Head of Port Operations of PT Pelni Ambon Branch Mohammad Assagaff in Ambon, as reported by Antara, Tuesday, September 12. For the implementation of this policy, his party has alerted officers to evaluate what items are included in the category of excess baggage and which are categorized as cubication. For example, a refrigerator. So far, there are passengers who leave to take them on board to the ship, which should be included in the cargo category. "But in the near future we will continue to apply this because this is a rule, especially since Yos Sudarso Ambon Port has entered type A, then Pelni has also socialized the problem of excess baggage since last year," he said. He understands that there are still many prospective passengers who do not know this, but Pelni will continue to implement it. "Moreover, Pelni has collaborated with the Indonesian Navy in the Center, so they have sent coordinators at each type A port to carry out surveillance," he said. He added that this policy was also to help PT Pelni overcome leakage of company income by tightening excess baggage. "We have also prepared two scales and one more will be added in the near future," he said.

He added that this rule applies to all passenger ships, both ships belonging to PT Pelni and pioneering ships.
