The University of North Sumatra (USU) is preparing to implement a new government regulation regarding the graduation requirements for undergraduate and applied undergraduate students.

Deputy Chancellor I for Academic, Student Affairs, and Alumnian Affairs, Dr. Edy Ikhsan said that the university would prepare a new rector regulation referring to the Regulation of the Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Permendikbudristek) Number 53 of 2023 concerning High Education Quality Guarantee, which includes provisions regarding student graduation requirements.

"We will immediately draw up the latest regulations. Of course we have to make adjustments to Permendikbudristek No. 53 of 2023. It is impossible for us to make a rector regulation contrary to ministerial regulations," he said in Medan City as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, August 31.

He said the regulation gave universities the option to establish graduation mechanisms and conditions.

According to Article 18 of Permendikbudristek No. 53 of 2023, the study program on undergraduate or applied undergraduate programs ensures that the competence of graduates is achieved, among others, through the provision of final tasks that can be in the form of thesis, prototype, project, or other forms of final tasks of the same kind, both individually and in groups.

In addition, study programs in applied undergraduate programs or undergraduates can ensure the achievement of graduates' competence by implementing project-based curriculum or other similar forms of learning and assessments that can show the achievement of graduates' competencies.

"The final task can be in the form of various kinds, can be in the form of prototypes, projects, can be in other forms, not just thesis and dissertation thesis. This decision is in the university. So that's what we will adjust later," said Edy Ikhsan.
