LAMPUNG SELATAN - The Port Area Police (KSKP) of the South Lampung Police thwarted the smuggling of 3,895 wild birds.

The Head of the Port Area Police (KSKP) AKP Ridho Rafika said that his party thwarted the smuggling of thousands of birds without documents at the inspection area of the Bakauheni Port entrance on Friday (25/8) night.

"Earlier, when our members carried out routine checks at the entrance area of Bakauheni Port, they suspected a diesel truck Nopol BE 8849 ZF from Bandarlampung for South Tangerang," said AKP Ridho, quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, August 26.

Then the team examined the vehicle which was found carrying birds without legal documents.

"Officers found hundreds of fruit baskets in a truck tub containing thousands of wild birds without documents," he said.

Ridho said the truck was immediately secured and taken to the KSKP Police Headquarters for further investigation.

"When recorded, no protected birds were found, it's just that we don't have documents, so we will still hold them and we will transfer them to the Bakauheni Agricultural Quarantine Center," he said.

He explained that the trade in illegal wildlife is still rampant and the Bakauheni Ferry Port, which is located in South Lampung Regency, is the main door for the circulation of illegal wildlife to Java Island.

"For the total basket, there are 175 pieces with a total of 3,895 birds of various types, includingeyar, prenjak, ciblek, sogok ontong, gelatik, brushes, ticket mas, sirtu, cendet trusukan, jatak kebo, konin, poksai, and cucak bayem," he said.

Furthermore, we will hand over the evidence of birds and drivers to the Class 1 Agricultural Quarantine Center in Bandar Lampung for further examination.
