Terima Presiden Diaz-Canel, Xi Jinping Pastikan China Dukung Cuba Menjaga Kedaulatannya

JAKARTA - President Xi Jinping confirmed China's support for Cuba in defending its national sovereignty, opposing foreign interference and the United States' economic blockade, and plans to expand strategic coordination with Havana.

The statement was made by President Xi during a meeting with Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel on the sidelines of the 15th BRICS summit which was held in Johannesburg, South Africa, according to a statement from China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday.

"China really appreciates Cuba's consistent firm support for China on issues involving China's core interests, and will continue to firmly support Cuba in defending its national sovereignty, opposing foreign interference and blockade, doing its best to provide support for Cuban economic and social development," President Xi said. according to the statement, reported by Reuters August 24.

During the talks, President Diaz-Cnel said Cuba-China relations were at "the highest point of all time"

"The Cuban people admire President Xi Jinping very much and sincerely thank China for its valuable understanding and support for Cuba's goals," said President Diaz-Canel at a meeting also attended by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

The meeting between the two leaders comes months after a report appeared in the media, China has reached a secret agreement with Cuba to build an electronic eavesdropping facility on the island.

However, the Governments of the United States and Cuba cast doubt on the report. Beijing itself denounced the US government and media for releasing what it called inconsistent information, calling the allegations false.
