Deputy General Yandri Affirms Jokowi's No Intervention Regarding PAN's Support For Prabowo

JAKARTA - Deputy General Chairperson (Waketum) of PAN Yandri Susanto emphasized that President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) did not intervene with the decision of his party to support Prabowo Subianto as a presidential candidate (candidate) in the 2024 General Election. It is known that PAN and Golkar officially joined the Greater Indonesia Awakening Coalition (KIR) made by Gerindra and PKB who brought Prabowo to become presidential candidates. "I think, not so far the intervention of Mr. Jokowi. Because each of these political parties has a way," said Yandri at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Monday, August 14. "And we have been exploring it with KIB for a long time, then PAN also came to PDIP, came to Gerindra, then also built communication with other parties, already long. That is, today PAN's decision in Prabowo is the best for PAN," he continued. According to Yandri, PAN's decision to support Prabowo as a presidential candidate is as an independence of PAN as a political party that has the right to carry a presidential candidate, not because certain parties have requested it. "So the problem of Mr. Jokowi, it has been confirmed by Mr. Zul that there is no direct interference," he stressed. Meanwhile, President Jokowi stated that PAN and Golkar's support to Prabowo is a matter of political parties. Yes, that's the business of Golkar, its business is PAN, its business is Gerindra, its business is PKB. That's the business of the parties," said Jokowi at the State Palace, Central Jakarta, Monday, August 14.

Jokowi admitted that he had no communication with PAN Chairman Zulkifli Hasan or Golkar Chairman Airlangga before the declaration because it was not his business.

"No, no. That's their business. Coalition matters, cooperation matters. I'm not the party chairman. I'm the president," said Jokowi.
