CENTRAL PAPUA - The Puncak Regional Government (Pemda) in Central Papua has extended the handling of drought and hunger in Lambewi, Agandugume and Oneri Districts until next October.
Puncak Regent Willem Wandik said the extension of the handling was due to the delivery of various aids from Timika to the affected districts which took time considering that the aircraft could only carry about one ton of one trip.
Wandik admitted that he only rented one plane to transport various aids. He argued that there was only one airline that wanted to serve in flying to Agandugume, namely PT Revan. While others refused to fly for security reasons.
"We can only use PT. Revan's aircraft to transport various aids from Timika in limited quantities, not to mention if the weather is bad, there must be no flights to the area," said Wandik in Jayapura, Papua, Thursday, August 10, which was confiscated by Antara.
Wandik said the impact of natural disasters in extreme weather caused the community's crops to die. With the extension of disaster management, he said, it is hoped that it will be able to grow again.
Regarding the condition of public health in Lambewi, Agandugume and Oneri Districts, Wandik said that in general it could be handled gradually.
Although the handling of drought and hunger was extended, Wandik said the health team that was sent had returned from Agandugume.
"Hopefully the weather will continue to improve gradually, so that people can return to farming," he said.
